The history of training international specialists at the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University begins in 2004, when the first enrollment of students in the field of "International Relations" at the Department of International Finance, Faculty of International Economics.

On July 1, 2005, the Academic Council of Dnipropetrovsk National University decided to establish a Department of International Relations within the Faculty of International Economics in order to train international specialists. The Department of International Relations began its work on September 1, 2005. Professor A.K. Vasilevsky, associate professors OG Purigina and LF Kondratyuk, senior teacher Gaponenko SO, teacher Glazirin EM formed the scientific and pedagogical staff of the newly created department.

The first head of the Department of International Relations was Candidate of Economic Sciences OG Purigina, who held this position in 2005-2008.

From 2008 to 2009 the Department of International Relations was headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor AG Bolebrukh, under whose leadership the department began to develop the topic "International Relations and Foreign Policy of Ukraine". Subsequently (from 2009 to 2014) the management of the department was carried out by Dr. Flight. Sciences, Prof. MA. Shepelev. In 2011, a decision was made to transfer the Department of International Relations from the Faculty of International Economics to the newly established Faculty of Social Sciences and International Relations.

From 2014 to 2017, the head of the Department of International Relations was Doctor of Political Sciences, Associate Professor VS Sergeyev, whose research interests included the study of the problems of political parties-projects and the network structure of modern political activity.

Since 2018, the department is headed by Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor IV Ishchenko, who is engaged in research on modeling of international relations, political security, axiology and synergy of international relations. The Department of International Relations trains applicants for the first (bachelor's) and second (master's) levels of higher education in the specialty 291 International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies, and regional studies, educational program "International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies, and Regional Studies ». It is worth noting that in 2011 the first graduation of masters in "International Relations" was carried out. In 2012, the recruitment of students in the field of International Information began, which was discontinued in 2016 due to changes in the list of specialties for which specialists are trained in higher educational institutions of Ukraine.

The Department of International Relations has a postgraduate course, which allows talented young scientists under the guidance of highly qualified teachers to conduct in-depth research on current issues of international relations. Thus, her graduate, Golovko Ivan Kostiantynovych, in November 2019 in the Specialized Academic Council D 76.051.03 at Chernivtsi National University named after Yu. degree of candidate of political sciences.

The scientific activity of the department is focused on research of topical issues of international relations. In particular, the staff of the department works on research of features of modern integration processes in Europe, their national interests in the international arena. Confirmation of the significant scientific potential of the department is the systematic preparation of collective monographs by scientific and pedagogical staff of the department. Thus, in 2015, a collective monograph entitled "The European Union in the modern system of international relations" was published, which revealed the leading aspects of the implementation of foreign relations and diplomatic activities of this key player in the international arena. In 2017, the department's research and teaching staff also prepared a collective monograph "NATO in the modern system of international relations", which thoroughly explored the transformation of NATO's place in modern international relations. In 2018, another collective monograph of the staff of the Department of Modern Discourse of International Relations was published, devoted to the analysis of 

themes of modern scientific discourse on international issues. The collective monograph "Technologies of modern international relations" was published in 2021 as a result of the research topic "Technological dimension of international relations". This monograph analyzed the most effective technologies used in public diplomacy, information and communication technologies, technologies of public involvement in foreign policy decisions.

The Department of International Relations systematically organizes scientific conferences, cooperates with a number of Ukrainian and foreign universities and research centers. Thus, in 2015 a scientific-practical conference on "Transatlantic security and the role of Ukraine" was held, which allowed to create a platform for interaction and further cooperation of teachers, students, graduate students of Oles Honchar National University and experts in transatlantic security and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. In the following years, the department held a number of conferences: All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference "Education and Science in Global Transformation" (November 2017), International Conference "Education and Science in a Changing World: Problems and Prospects for Development" (March 2021), International Conference "Security in the Modern World" (September 2019). In November 2021, the department organized an international scientific-practical conference "Actual problems of modern international relations", which involved 138 participants from leading educational institutions in Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Azerbaijan, public authorities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The Department of International Relations is actively cooperating with the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine, in particular, the NATO Information Center in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast has been established on the basis of the University. Regja Maria, Associate Professor, is the head of the EU Information Center in Dnipro. The Department of International Relations together with the EU Information Center conducts events dedicated to the promotion of European values ​​and coverage of European integration processes. Thus, in February-March 2021, online classes were held at the "School of Young Diplomat: With Europe in the future!", Organized for students of the region.

At the Department of International Relations there are student research groups, the activities of which have a positive effect on the increased interest of students in the study of international relations. Scientific circles have the following scientific directions: "Formation and implementation of foreign policy: the American experience and Ukrainian realities" (Assoc. Prof. Dvurechenska OS), "Features of implementation and leading directions of foreign cultural policy of the world" (Assoc. Prof. Grachevska TO ), "Features of modernization of political institutions of Ukraine in the context of integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic space" (Assoc. Prof. Petrov PG), "Technology in International Relations" (Prof. Vysotsky OY), "Modeling the development of international relations in on the basis of modern methods "(Prof. IV Ishchenko)," The place and role of non-governmental organizations in modern world processes "(Assoc. Prof. NE Conon)," Problems of modern African studies "(Assoc. Prof. VO Perminov), "Problems of development of foreign policy of Central Asia" (Assoc. Prof. Mykytchuk NM), "Problems of development of the modern system of international security" (Assoc. Prof. Shcherbak VM).

The Department of International Relations does not stay away from projects and activities aimed at involving students in scientific and research work. For example, in March 2015, a scientific-practical conference on "Ukraine's Transatlantic Security and the Role of Ukraine" was held. specified area.

Also, the Department of International Relations in 2014-2016 was the organizer of the second stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in "International Relations". Among the winners of these intellectual competitions were students of the department - Morozova O., Gershov E., Rybalko K.

Students of the department also won the All-Ukrainian competitions of scientific works in the specialty 291 International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies. In 2019 Elizaveta Monastyryova became a prize-winner of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad and competition of scientific works (III place). In 2021 Kosteeva Marina received a diploma of the II degree of the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies for training and defense of "Prospects for the restoration of bipolarity in the modern world in the US-China confrontation.

Teachers of the department take part in programs of academic exchanges and academic mobility, programs of international

employment and mobility in higher education. At the University of Ca Foscari (Venice, Italy), M. Reggie gave a series of lectures for students of the master's program "Comparative International Relations", dedicated to the peculiarities of EU information policy.

In 2019, associate professors of the department Dvurechenska OS and Reggie MA joined the innovative and interactive IFES course on civic education for universities "Democracy: from theory to practice", developed specifically for Ukraine on the example of the IFES course on civic education, which was implemented in Georgia. This allowed to start teaching this discipline for first-year students of the first (bachelor's) level of higher education, which has a positive effect on the formation of competencies that will allow the implementation of public participation projects.

Regional trainers of the Postgraduate Program "Governance in Ukrainian Local Government for Leaders, Middle-Level Managers, Community Public Service Specialists" in Community Governance under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Decentralization Brings Better Results and Efficiency (DOBRE), implemented by Global Communities, and in cooperation with a partner of the USAID DOBRE Program - Małopolska School of Public Administration at the Krakow University of Economics (MSAP / UEK, Poland) became the head of the department IV Ishchenko, and associate professors Dvurechenska OS ., Regja M.A.
